Genesys conducts 16th annual Charity Classic fundraiser
(GENESEE COUNTY, MI) The 16th annual Genesys Charity Classic Party will take place Saturday, July 12, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Genesys Athletic Club (on the Genesys Health Park campus in Grand Blanc Township). Cost of $250 a couple includes hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, a strolling dinner served by more than 15 local restauranteurs, and an opportunity to bid on many items through a silent auction.
The Classic also includes a golf tournament Monday, July 14 at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, the home of the Buick Open. Sponsorships of different levels can be purchased.
In addition to the two events, Genesys Health Foundation, presenters of the Charity Classic, will conduct a raffle for a new car or $20,000 cash. Second prize is $2,500, and third prize is $1,000. Cost of tickets are $100 each and only 1,000 will be sold.
For the next five years, funds raised from the Genesys Charity Classic will go to Health Access, a grant-funded program that helps the uninsured and underinsured in Genesee County obtain access to quality medical care, needed prescription medicines and health care resources for free or a minimal cost. Care managers will guide individuals and families through the process of finding health care, help with completing paperwork to enroll in health coverage plans, and provide answers and resources regarding medical concerns. Health Access services are free, but some programs clients are referred to may require small fees.
In 1993, Genesys announced its first Charity Classic, a fundraising event where business and community leaders worked alongside Genesys to support its efforts to build a healthier future for area residents. The event raised $90,000 and more than 250 people participated. Funds for this first event were earmarked for a 10-year, $1 million commitment for Healthy Students 2000, an initiative to improve the health status of Genesee County students.
Year after year, Genesys continued its tradition of designating proceeds from the Charity Classic to improve the health of the community. Funds have been used to develop a parish nurse ministry program, an outreach service that enables Genesys to provide nurses in local parishes with the tools and resources to promote good health care for parishioners.
Classic funds also have been used to organize an ongoing scholarship program for area students interested in pursuing a career in health care. To date, Genesys has awarded more than 90 scholarships valued at more than $157,000.
